A pressure washer with a hose reel is a machine that stores the high-pressure hose on a drum, not in a coil on a hook. You pull what you need, wash, then wind it back. That is the feature. Extra bar is not.
UK shops sell two useful versions. A trolley with a reel in the body, which you still plug into a tap and a 13A socket. Or a wall box with an auto-retract hose, which lives on the garage or side return. This page is the feature guide. Brand depth sits on the Nilfisk hub and the wall-mounted guide.
It is not a lab test. Specs come from Nilfisk and Giraffe Tools. Street prices come from the Nilfisk shop, Giraffe Tools UK and Amazon in August 2026.

Start with where the hose should live. A small garage and a machine you still want to wheel to the front path is the Nilfisk Core 140-8. A drive that is always next to a solid wall, and you never want to coil anything, is a Grandfalls box. An 8 m Kärcher Flex hose is a good hose. It is not a reel.
The Nilfisk in full is the Nilfisk hub. Wall boxes, brackets and detailing bays sit on the wall-mounted jet wash guide. The brand-agnostic mains shortlist is the electric pressure washer page. Yellow trolleys, including the K4 Flex, are the Kärcher hub. First-use setup and frost drain-down are on how to use a pressure washer. If the missing thing is a socket, not a tidy hose, start with petrol vs electric.
What to buy
Buy the reel type that matches the job, then stop. A plug-in trolley with 8 m on a drum will not reach a rear patio from a front garage. A 30 m wall box will not come with you to a neighbour’s house. Do not pay for both unless you already know you need two machines.

Prices checked August 2026. The Nilfisk shop shortlink can land on older 140-6 stock. Confirm the carton says 140-8 and shows a reel. Giraffe Tools was in a summer sale when the wall-mounted page was priced. Confirm the live total. The K4 is in the table so you can see a long Flex hose is not the same feature.
Why a hose reel
A high-pressure hose that lives in a heap kinks, scuffs and takes longer to put away than the wash itself. A reel is storage you will actually use. It is not extra reach. Eight metres on a drum is still eight metres. Thirty metres on a wall is still only useful if the wall is on the right side of the house.
People search this phrase after fighting a Kärcher coil in a tight garage, or after watching a wall box pull the hose back on its own. Those are different machines. The first still wheels to the work. The second is a fixture. Buy the fixture only when the job is always the drive, the garage apron or the side return.
Built-in reel or wall reel
- Built-in reel (Nilfisk Core 140-8). An 8 m UltraFlex hose winds into the trolley. You still need a garden tap and a 13A socket. You can move the machine. You cannot pretend 8 m is a house-length hose.
- Wall reel (Grandfalls Essential or G20). Pump and hose live in one box on the wall. You pull 20 m or 30 m, lock it, wash, then let it retract. The floor stays clear. The machine stays put.
- Long hose, no reel (K4 or K5 Flex). 8 m or 10 m of PremiumFlex on a hook. Stretch and storage are better than an old stiff Kärcher hose. You still coil it. That is why it is not a pick on this page.
- Wall bracket, no reel (SIP Tempest PW420/150). A boxed washer that hangs up. The hose is 6 m. That is a wall-mounted machine, not a reel machine. The split lives on the wall-mounted guide.
If you want one washer for the front path, the back lawn and a neighbour’s car, buy a trolley. If you want to walk up, pull the hose and never fetch a machine from the shed, buy the wall box. The rest of this page is that fork, not a second Nilfisk shortlist and not a second Grandfalls catalogue.
Nilfisk Core 140-8 PowerControl
The plug-in pressure washer with a hose reel for most UK homes
- Buy: Nilfisk shop £186 standard, £240 Car Wash kit · Nilfisk UK
- Pressure: 140 bar max, three power steps (100 / 80 / 60%)
- Flow: 465 L/h max, 348 L/h rated
- Hose: 8 m UltraFlex on an internal reel
- Motor: 1.8 kW
- Weight: 8.7 kg
- In the box (standard): detergent sprayer, gentle nozzle, rough nozzle
- Car Wash kit adds: Super Foam sprayer and an underbody / arch lance
- Who it is for: a house with a tap and a socket, a small garage, and a buyer who wants the hose in the body rather than on a hook
This is the only tap-fed home reel we have priced. 140 bar sits in the same useful class as a K4. You get an aluminium pump head and a hose that winds into the trolley. You give up the Kärcher Flex hose in daily stretch, the gun that shows the pressure step, and the T 5 ecosystem.
The reel is the reason this machine is on this page. Eight metres of fabric-reinforced hose that disappears into the body is easier to live with than a coil behind the door. It will walk a family car if you park at a corner. It will not let you stand still on a long van. Move the trolley. The reel is storage, not extra reach.
Read the flow line. 465 L/h is the peak. The rated 348 L/h is closer to a K2 than a K4 at 420 L/h. Foam will rinse. A long, filthy drive will feel slower than a K5. Buy this machine for the reel and the metal pump, not because the box says 140 bar.
Use the gentle nozzle on paint. Leave the rough nozzle for stone. PowerControl lets you knock the pump back a step without changing the tip. That is the same idea as a Kärcher Vario, done with a knob and two Click and Clean jets.
Do not confuse the current 140-8 (8 m, reel) with older 140-6 stock (6 m, no reel). Same pump class, worse reach, and no drum. The shop shortlink on this site can still open a 140-6 listing. If the page does not say 140-8 and does not show a reel, walk on. Warranty is two years, with an option to extend to five if you register it. The ten-year promo closed in June 2026.
The Car Wash kit is the same 140-8 with Super Foam and an arch lance in the carton. Pay the extra £54 when foam and winter arches are why you are shopping. Skip the kit if you already own a bottle. That pair is a foam decision, not a reel decision. How the machine sits against a K4 and a Bosch is on the Nilfisk hub and the electric guide.
Skip it if the point of a reel is 20 m or 30 m that lives on the wall. That is Grandfalls, below. Skip it if you already own Kärcher detergents and lances and you only wanted a nicer hose. Stay yellow. Skip it if you want the cheapest named 130 bar class. The Bosch on the electric page undercuts it and has no reel. Skip it if the drive is long and green. That is a K5, still without a reel, on the electric guide.
Giraffe Tools Grandfalls Essential
The wall reel to buy if the job is always in the same place
- Buy: Giraffe Tools Essential £261 (was £290)
- SKU: P115-G30BUK
- Pressure: 165 bar at first discharge, 125 bar rated under typical load
- Flow: 8.0 L/min max with the nozzle open (480 L/h), 5.0 L/min rated (300 L/h)
- Hose: 30 m replaceable ordinary (black) hose, auto-retract, shift-lock at any length
- Motor: 2 kW brush / universal motor, 8.5 A, 240 V 50 Hz
- Cable: 5 m
- Size / weight: 654 × 353 × 864 mm, 21.2 kg
- In the box: wall box, wall base, foam pot, gun and nozzle, 2 m lead-in hose, fasteners, tap adaptor, manual
- Who it is for: a house with a garage or side-return wall, a car on the drive, and a patio you can reach without dragging a trolley
This is the product people mean when they want a reel that is not inside a trolley. Pump, hose and storage live in one box. Mount it, clip the garden hose to the 2 m lead-in, plug into a 13A outdoor socket, and pull. Thirty metres will walk a family car, the side passage and a small rear patio from one fixing, if the wall is in the right place.
Rated pressure is 125 bar, not 165. Treat 165 as the peak on the box. A fan jet at 125 bar sits with a K4 for cars. Use the foam pot. Leave pencil or rotary jets off the paint.
The motor is a 2 kW brush unit, not induction, which is why it is cheaper and louder than a workshop washer on a bracket. Total Stop cuts the motor when you drop the trigger. IPX5 and a UV-resistant case allow an outdoor wall. Giraffe Tools still tells you to take it down for winter. Do that, or drain and cover it. A reel full of ice is a new pump.
The hose is replaceable on Essential. That is the reason to skip the smaller G20 if you will use this every week. Auto-retract is the feature you are paying for. Measure the walk before you buy 30 m you will never pull out.
Install notes and the rest of the wall range sit on the wall-mounted jet wash page. Essential if 30 m from one wall covers the house. G20 if a short drive is the whole job.
Giraffe Tools Grandfalls G20
The compact wall reel. Same idea as Essential, smaller box, 20 m hose, 180° swivel bracket. Buy it when one hatchback on a short drive is the job and the 30 m box will not sit on the wall.
- Buy: Giraffe Tools G20 from £207 · Amazon
- Models: P115-G20B / P115-G20A
- Pressure: 150 bar max
- Flow: 8.0 L/min max, 5.0 L/min rated
- Hose: 20 m, not replaceable. Ordinary black or grey ultra-soft
- Motor: 1.8 kW, 7.5 A, 240 V
- Cable: 2 m (shorter than Essential)
- Size / weight: 427 × 475 × 541 mm, 18.2 kg
- Who it is for: one car, a short drive, a tight garage wall
Twenty metres is not thirty. Measure the walk around the car before you save the money. The hose is not a replaceable spare. The 2 m power lead means the socket has to be close, or you need a proper outdoor extension on an RCD. Live Amazon prices were not confirmed on the last check. Start with the brand shop shortlink.
Skip Essential or the G20 if you need to wash two sides of the house, or you rent and might move. A wall box is a fixture. Skip them if you already own a K4 and you only wanted the hose off the floor. A trolley plus a separate high-pressure reel is a workaround on the wall-mounted page, not a Grandfalls. Skip them if you wanted a quiet induction motor you can lift off the wall. That is a different class, and it is not a reel by default.
Kärcher K4 Flex has no reel
The K4 Power Control Flex is the default UK house washer on the Kärcher hub and the electric guide. It has 8 m of PremiumFlex. That hose is nicer to pull around a family car than an old stiff Kärcher line. It still lives on a hook. The K5 Flex adds 10 m and still has no drum.
Do not buy a K4 because this page mentioned a reel. Buy a K4 if you want one machine for cars, furniture and a normal patio, and you do not care how the hose stores. Buy the Nilfisk if the reel is the point and you still want a trolley. Buy Grandfalls if the hose should live on the wall.
Skip it if
- You only wanted a longer hose. A reel is storage. Eight metres on a Nilfisk drum is not 30 m of reach. If the drive is long and you still want a trolley, that is a K5 Flex on the electric page, not a reel upgrade.
- The job moves around the house. A wall box will not walk to the front path. Keep a trolley, with or without a built-in reel.
- There is no outdoor tap, or no 13A socket. A drum will not invent either. That is a type decision on petrol vs electric, or a battery gun, not a tidier hose.
- You already own a K4 and you like it. Adding a wall box is a second machine. Coiling the Flex hose is cheaper. A separate high-pressure reel is the halfway house on the wall-mounted page.
- You wanted a washer on a bracket, not a retractable hose. SIP hangs on the wall and ships 6 m with no reel. That page is wall-mounted, not this one.
What we left out
Older Nilfisk Core 140-6 stock. Same pump class, 6 m hose, no reel. Specialist dealers have sat around £180 to £187. It is leftover, not the current UK reel buy. The shop shortlink can still open that listing. If it does not say 140-8, it does not belong here.
SIP Tempest PW420/150. A boxed washer with a wall bracket and a 6 m hose. No drum. The induction motor and the option to lift it off are the point. That is a wall-mounted machine, not a reel machine. Read it on the wall-mounted guide.
bigboi WashR PRO MKII plus mount. A detailing washer on a steel shelf. The mount includes a manual reel for the 13 m bay hose. That is a detailing bay, not a consumer retractable box, and it is a different budget. Same wall-mounted page.
Grandfalls Plus. Same 30 m, 2 kW box as Essential. The upgrade is a softer replaceable hose. Not a different class of reel. Buy it only if you already know you want that hose. The wall-mounted page has the current listing note.
A K4 on a shelf, or Kärcher’s HR 4 garden reel. Storage. The HR 4 is a garden hose, not a high-pressure mount. Neither is a pressure washer with a hose reel.
FAQ
What is the best pressure washer with a hose reel in the UK?
If you want a plug-in trolley, the Nilfisk Core 140-8 PowerControl at £186. 140 bar, 8 m UltraFlex on an internal reel, 8.7 kg. If you want the hose on the wall, Giraffe Tools Grandfalls Essential at £261, with 30 m of auto-retract hose. Those are the two UK answers we have priced. Brand shopping after that is the Nilfisk hub or the wall-mounted guide.
Do I need a built-in reel or a wall reel?
Built-in if you still want to wheel the machine and 8 m will walk the job. Wall reel if the work is always next to a sound wall and you want 20 m or 30 m that retracts on its own. A wall box is a fixture. A trolley is a tool you can take to the front path.
Does the Kärcher K4 have a hose reel?
No. The K4 Power Control Flex has 8 m of PremiumFlex. The K5 Flex has 10 m. Both coil on a hook. That hose is the reason people buy Flex rather than an older stiff K4. It is not a reel. If the drum is why you are shopping, stay on this page. If you want one yellow machine for the house, use the Kärcher hub.
Is the Nilfisk Core 140-6 the same as the 140-8?
No. Same pump class. The 140-6 has 6 m of hose and no reel. The 140-8 has 8 m on an internal reel. Buy the 140-8 if the reel is the point. Ignore leftover 140-6 listings, even if the shortlink opens one.
Can I add a hose reel to a Kärcher?
You can leave the trolley in the garage and put a high-pressure hose reel on the wall, with a short link hose to the pump. That is a workaround, not a Grandfalls box, and you do not get auto-retract. Kärcher’s HR 4 is a garden hose reel. Details sit on the wall-mounted page.
How long a hose do I need?
Walk it. Socket and tap to the far corner of the car, then to the patio if that is part of the job. A family car next to a trolley is 8 m if you park at a corner. A short drive from a garage wall is 20 m. A house that turns a corner is 30 m, if the wall is on the right side. The reel does not add metres you did not buy.
What if I have no outdoor socket?
A reel will not invent one. A mains Nilfisk or a Grandfalls box still wants a 13A point and a tap. If the socket is the missing thing, start with petrol vs electric. If the tap is the missing thing, a battery gun is the other path. Do not park a 140-8 in the kitchen and run a lead through the hall.
